What is Botox?

Botox is a common injectable treatment that can temporarily smooth wrinkles and fine lines. It is often used to treat skin concerns like crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and furrows between the brows.

If you frown or laugh a lot, it can lead to wrinkles developing as you age. Your skin begins to lose elasticity due to repeated contractions that create visible lines.

Botox helps reverse this by blocking nerve signals to the treatment area by injecting a protein called botulinum toxin. This causes the muscles to relax, softening the skin.

Botox is also used for medical purposes such as pain management, muscle spasms, migraines, and ptosis. Because it blocks neurotransmitters that contract muscles and send pain signals, Botox is very effective at treating a wide range of conditions, from mild to severe.

What to Expect During Botox

Before your quick 10-minute treatment, your doctor will clean the treatment area. They can apply a topical numbing cream if you're concerned about discomfort with the injection.

However, most patients don't feel anything more than a pinch. Your doctor will inject Botox into the area or areas of concern and send you home with instructions about recovery.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an injectable treatment that relaxes muscles to reduce the appearance of deep frown lines and wrinkles between your eyebrows called glabellar lines. Smoothing glabellar lines can give patients a younger, well-rested look.

Xeomin is a temporary prescription treatment made with a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, which comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It uses a two-step filtration process called XTRACT Technology to isolate the therapeutic component of the toxin.

What Should I Tell My Doctor Before Getting Xeomin?

Before getting Xeomin, make sure you tell your doctor about:

Any conditions affecting your muscles or nerves

Your complete medical history, including any allergies, prescription drugs, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements you take

If you’ve had any reactions or allergies to botulinum toxin treatments

If you’ve had any other botulinum toxin treatments in the last four months

Is Xeomin Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate for Xeomin if you are an adult who wants to smooth fine lines and wrinkles on your face. If you are allergic to botulinum toxin or have an ongoing infection in the treatment area, you should not get Xeomin.
